Mary M. Thompson is an Appalachian-based artist and writer.  She specializes in copper-plate etching techniques, drawing, and painting.  She is branching out into digital platforms for her Illustrations.

Miss Thompson’s art has been shown in the UNG Arts Guild 3D and 2D juried exhibitions of 2015, and has been exhibited in the show CEDARSTICK at the University of North Georgia Library and Technology Center November 2016 as well as the Clarkesville Library December 2016.  She will be exhibited in the 2017 Awagami International Miniprint Exhibition.

On the rare occasion that she indulges in photography, Miss Thompson prefers to capture images of textures and patterns in nature, which she considers to be the highest form of art.  “God had a vision and created thus, and so I shall do the same.”  Her métier, however, is surrealistic renderings based off of her own dreams and waking visions.

In school Miss Thompson felt it was important that while she develop general and largely sought after subject matter (such as landscape and portraiture), her heart has always been in surrealism and darker imagery.  She began by utilizing sketches in her dream journal where she realized there was a couple decades worth of untapped subject matter, with plenty more in store from future visions.

Miss Thompson dreams of traveling abroad regularly and is teaching herself Irish and Japanese.  She loves owls, rabbits, and butterflies, and to her mother's great disappointment, skulls.  Miss Thompson also finds great happiness in the color purple and in Christmas lights. Her greatest hobby next to writing is sleeping.
